Alexeios Vatatzes
Alexeios Vatatzes was captain of the Imperial Guard of the Holy Archadian Empire during the reigns of Baldassare Velisario, Cleon Belisarius, and Berenike Garantia.
Reign of Baldassare
Alexeios was promoted to captain of the Imperial Guard during the reign of Baldassare Velisario.
Regency of Berenike
Upon hearing the death of Baldassare Velisario, Alexeios ordered the Imperial Guard to retrieve the heir, Nicodemus, from Isthar. However, the guards were defeated by local guards and failed to take the prince back to Garantinople.
At the orders of the regent, Alexeios arrested Heraklios Cantacuzenos for treason.
During the Imperial Civil War, Alexeios was given command of the armies of Garantinople. He was involved in the Battle of Lake Pontus, where his army was destroyed. He was taken prisoner by Joseph von Wallenstein and Vincenzo della Rovere.
Post-war
After the Imperial Civil War, Alexeios was likely released from custody at some point and lived a quiet retirement.
