Jahangir (863 - 881 AIC), born Nicodemus Belisarius and Nicodemos Garantius, also called the Sayyid, was first emperor of the Garanid Empire.

Early Life

Nicodemus Belisarius was born eldest son of Baldassare Velisario in 863 AIC. As eldest son, he was heir to the Holy Archadian Empire. After his fathers death in 878 AIC, the Imperial Guard was sent to the retrieve Nicodemus from Isthar, where he was being educated. Possibly sensing a coup by her sister, Berenike, he ordered the guards killed before they could kidnap him. Nicodemus then left for the desert of Haram, into hiding.

Imperial Civil War

Whilst in the desert of Haram, Nicodemus adopted the name Sayyid. He led an attack on the contingent of Order of Saint Kastor of Karden who were deployed to find him, personally executing Hermann von Eleuburg through the means of scorpions. He marched on Dehradun, where he met with the commanding officer Manuel Parapinakes and convinced him to relinquish control of the fort and army.

The Sayyid then marched on Garantinople and had the army, now mixed Haramites and Archadians, camp outside its walls. Irulan Garantia and Manuel Parapinakes had the city open its walls for the army, which was forbidden from looting, whilst the Sayyid walked to the palace. The garrison surrendered with little bloodshed. At the palace, the Sayyid found the Empress Berenike Garantia dying by suicide.

Reign

After the seizure of power, the Sayyid, now revealed to be Nicodemos Garantius, gave a speech to the cheering crowds of the city. He denounced the heliarch Innocentius Aurelius, exiling him to the desert of Haram, and dissolved the Heliarchy. He denounced Sotiranity also, and implored the crowds to "look into the sun and see the truth". He dissolved the Holy Archadian Empire, granting independence to Vlachia, Faendal, and Nicolovia as well as exiling Archadia from the city. The Consilium Basileii was also dissolved. He took the name Jahangir, the true Conqueror of the World.

A new empire, the so-called Garanid Empire, was formed, centred on Garantinople and Isthar, with Jahangir its first Emperor. The empire was renowned for its equality, with all religions being accepted.

Some consider Jahangir to be as crazy as his sister.
