Cleon Belisarius Garantius XLV

Cleon Bellisarius Garantius XLV (867-882 AIC) was emperor of the Holy Archadian Empire from 881 to 882 AIC. The second son of Baldassare Velisario, he ascended the throne after his brother, Nicodemus Belisarius, was missing for three years. He was assassinated less than a year into his reign.

Reign

After his coronation in 881 AIC, he announced that we would be marrying his sister, Berenike Garantia. She had been the regent during the three years of interregnum and was widely considered to be using his brother as a puppet. The marriage shocked Omnicans, both citizens and nobles, despite it being with the blessing of the Heliarch.

During the reign, Berenike, Cleon's wife and now co-ruler, attempted to wield most authority whilst Cleon was mostly content with being passive.

Cleon was assassinated shortly into his reign, possibly ordered by Sotiran members of the Consilium Basileii. His death and subsequent reactions to his death caused the Imperial Civil War.
