Mining in Azurien

Azuriens mining industry mostly produces rare metals, gemstones and coal.

To mine for coal they search for a coal seam and start digging either underground or surface mining. The pit coal is than collected in the cokery and put into distillery tanks. With fire underneath it the tanks will get hot and through pyrolysis the coal will become the much more refined coke. The coke is then either sold or used for the smithing industry.

For the mining for gemstones a different technique is used. After finding sources of gems (usually found in areas of volcanic activity) a hole is dug into the mountain. Then they start a fire inside the mine. The fire is heating up the rock and then water is pumped into the mine so the rock will get cooled down quickly and become fragile. After pumping the water out again the miners can easily break out the gems, excavate the rock residuals and start with the fire again.
