Magnessos

Magnessos is a city state located in a valley with it's bay towards the Inner Sea. It is located on the Dactilian peninsula in northeastern Arrakis.

The people of Magnessos stem from the people of old Elyria and therefor share a common heritage with them. Along with its successor states Magnessos share religion, culture and language, even though it has changed over the years.

History

It is unknown when Magnessos was first settled. But it is known that is was never truely a part of the old Elyrian League, but rather a close trading partner, due to its somewhat isolated location communication with the rest of the league was never a possibility.

The first Magnesso people lived in smaller settlements along the river which runs through the valley. They organized themselves like the League, but loyalty towards themselves rather than the Elyrian King. As the population of Magnessos grew and trade intensified more and more settlers settled along the coast and abandoned their agricultural past, where in the name Magnessos before had refered to the whole valley, it started to just mean the city itself.

Culture & Religion

With their shared heritage with Elyria they brought along their gods. It is said that the god of wine and godess of agriculture themselves met the Magnesso colonists and blessed their land. With the importance held to these two gods, they have in today's Magnessos eclipsed the other gods of the Elyrian pantheon and are now the only two worshipped gods.
