The Sisters of Mercy are guards to the holy places, the priests, and the High Priest of the Azuran faith. They also deal with muggers that prey on travellers between the cities in Azurien. A few are also sent to temples in foreign cities to guard the priests at those locations. Sisterhood is withheld to women only. Abstinence is neither obligated to the sisters nor to the priests and relationships between them are welcome.
Sisters are not only well trained for combat, but are also educated in treatment of wounds. They represent both, the love and the fury of Azura. The largest group of them resides at their training grounds northwest of Tel Aldnium.
During the Silvetian Revolution Sisters of Mercy were sent to Kosel to aid civilians.
Combat
When a Sister witnesses unlawful behavior around a place of prayer or on the roads outside the villages of Azurien, she is, other than normals city guards, permitted to use lethal force.
In combat they typically use a sword and some of them use a bow. They have created a unique combat style where they use a greatsword together with a dagger. The greatsword is thereby dragged along behind them, while dodging attacks of opponents and then swung in a large sweep. The real attack then follows from the flow with the dagger that hits the opponent preoccupied with blocking the sweep from the greatsword. Once victorious Sisters grant their opponent mercy with a quick death.
