The Holy Archadian Empire was a realm consisting of the constituent realms of Archadia, Nicoloviana, Garantinopolis, Vlachia and Faendal. It was the sucessor state of the old Archadian Empire Its capital was Archadia.
History
The Holy Archadian Empire had its beginnings after a coalition of Nicoloviana, the Order of St. Kastor, and Verduro, led by István Nagy and the Heliarch in exile Antonius Pius, successfully ousted the Tor Ardwen regime of Urbs Archadia in 840 AIC. Soon afterwards, Istvan Nagy was crowned the new emperor and unified the realms of Nicoloviana, the Order of St. Kastor, and the remaining territories of the Archadian Empire. Eventually, Garantinople, Faendal, and Vlachia all joined.
Emperor Ottavio Makesini, formally Garantius XLII, reformed the empire in the 860s AIC. The lands of Faendal were feudalised into two new duchies Kronen and Ordensburg and the status of Free Imperial City was granted to the great cities of Archadia, Nicolovia, Freiburg and Garantinopolis. The Kingdom of Nicoloviana was also disbanded, since István Nagy lacked an heir.
Additionally, the Consilium Basileii was established at the same time. This was an assembly of the most important nobles of the Empire, as well as representatives of the Free Cities, which would advise the Emperor on all the issues that would require his assistance. The Consilium would also have the right to revoke a title of any of its member should it deem them unworthy of being a servant of the Empire. Furthermore, a member who would not attend the meetings of the Consilium for two years would have his titles revoked without any need of approval. Therefore, the members have the option of choosing a representative of them who would sit on the Consilium instead.
The Imperial Civil War destroyed the Holy Archadian Empire, giving way to the independence of its constituent territories and leading to the Second Archadian Empire being declared.
Politics
The Holy Archadian Empire was an imperial monarchy led by a divine emperor. Duchies within the empire, such as Faendal and Vlachia, wielded a great amount of autonomy and were effectively left to their own devices, only needing to pay lip service and swear fealty to the empire. After 860 AIC, the Consilium Basileii, an assembly of the most important nobles of the Empire, as well as representatives of the Free Cities, which would advise the Emperor on all the issues that would require his assistance. Matters were considered by the Consilium during its time included: establishing the East Empire Trade Company, diplomatic ties with Desteylle and its University of Montdrian, as well as limits on tariffs both external and internal.
