Silvetian Revolution

The term Silvetian Revolution is used to describe a series of events starting with the protests of the Silvetian burgher class against the increasingly oppressive and arbitrary policies of Duke Micha III (The Mad), leading to a Civil War within Silvetia and finally culminating in a war between the Silvetian Revolutionaries (the free cities and parts of the nobility), supported by most neighbouring states on the one side and the Ducal forces supported by the Lonian League and few other foreign powers on the other side.

It resulted in the capture of Duke Micha III. by Archadian forces, the abolition of the Duchy of Silvetia, its replacement with the Republic of Silvetia and the formal independence of that new Republic from its former overlord, the Lonian League.

Troop movements at the height of the war

September 1115 AIC

Burghers and other townsfolk protesting the oppressive heavy-handed rule of Duke Micha III are being attacked by the Duke's forces outside the Duke's Hall, Kosel. The city of Kosel declares open rebellion against the Duke. Both factions send envoys to the Lonian League, the Duke asking for military support and the Silvetian Republican movement asking for non-interference.

February 1116 AIC

The Second Archadian Empire proclaimed a resolution condemning the "violence committed on the civilians by the Duke Micha of Silvetia", acknowledging the Lonian League's right to enforce order in its vassal territories but warning of injustice, and specifically not mandating any military intervention by the Empire at that point. Greifenhausen declares neutrality but sends a military detachment to guard the remains of Balthasar I in Bad Erzquell. The city of Schwarzbrücken declares open rebellion against the Duke. A vanguard of mercenary forces of the Lonian League lays siege to Schwarzbrücken. Azurien declares its support for the Silvetian Republican movement and sends troops and a group of the Sisters of Mercy to Silvetia. The Kingdom of Dal declares neutrality in the conflict, but raises additional troops and closes its borders to Silvetian merchants and refugees.

April 1116 AIC

Azurien demands a cessation of hostilities by the Lonian League as well as Lonian support of a "peaceful change of government". Bad Erzquell declares open rebellion against the Duke. Adalbert Richard Wilhelm von Hohenstein, Count of Hohenstein and commander of the seventh Silvetian Banner in the Duke's Army, defects to the Silvetian Republican movement, revealing battle plans and war crimes of the Ducal forces. Duke Micha III declares himself Basileus of the Second Archadian Empire and sends envoys to the same, demanding military and financial support from the Empire. Balthasar IIIIII of Greifenhausen recalls his military detachments from Bad Erzquell, taking the holy relic with it.

May 1116 AIC

Montebianco condemns the uprisings in Silvetia and pledges support to the Lonian League and the Ducal forces. In a secret addendum to the letter, Lorenzo II of House Cesario demands the abdication of Duke Micha III. The Order of Mount Sol declares its neutrality in the conflict. Desteylle declares its support of the Silvetian Republican movement, denounces the atrocities committed by forces of the Lonian League its vassal, and mobilizes a sizeable war fleet for intervention. The Second Archadian Empire publishes a second resolution, mandating the Legio II Victrix for a "peacekeeping mission to Silvetia" to prevent foreign intervention while remaining strictly neutral in the Civil War itself. Shortly after the Balthasarian detachment leaves the town, Bad Erzquell is razed by Ducal forces and all resident members of the middle and higher classes are executed.

July 1116 AIC

The Lonian League orders the extradiction and imprisonment of Duke Micha III while also offering harsh terms for a peace treaty, demanding high reparations and staple rights on Silvetian goods in exchange for political autonomy of Silvetia as a Lonian Protectorate. The Republican movement sends a counter-proposal for a peace treaty, offering less reparations and demanding compensations for the destruction of Bad Erzquell. At the same time, Lonian forces breach the weak defences of Schwarzbrücken and burn it to the ground. Vozdina supports the Silvetian Republican movement with a loan of four million grivnas and a large shipment of guns and cannons. The Archadian Legion arrives north of Kosel, protecting the capital from the advancing Lonian army. The Lonian League votes to accept the Republican peace terms, but in light of the sack of Schwarzbrücken the Republican movement has no further interest in such an honorable settlement.

September 1116 AIC

Pretending to hand over control of the Legion to the "rightful Archadian Basileus", Archadian forces lure Duke Micha III into the encampment of Legio II (henceforth called Silvetus), seizing him without bloodshed and obtaining his signature beneath a letter of abdication.

October 1116 AIC

With the improvement of the strategic situation for the Republican forces, a revised peace treaty is proposed to the Lonian League, forfeiting all monetary reparations, demanding compensation for the destruction of Schwarzbrücken and Bad Erzquell, free trade agreements and a non-aggression pact. Archadian forces extradict the former Duke Micha II. to the Silvetian Republican government in exchange for monetary compensation. The Second Archadian Empire requests the Silvetian government to treat its former enemies with justice and mercy.

November 1116 AIC

Azurien reinforces the Archadian requests for justice and offers help in the training of a Silvetian Republican Army. The Lonian League recalls its armies from Silvetian territory, without formally accepting the Silvetian terms for peace.

March 1119 AIC

The Lonian Assembly officially recognizes the peace treaty, thus formally ending the Silvetian Revolutionary War.
