The Basarabs are the current ruling noble family of the Principality of Vlachia.
History
Alexandru III was the first Domnitor of Vlachia from this house. During the increasing tension in the lead up to the Imperial Civil War of the Holy Archadian Empire, Alexandru conspired with Petru Draculesti and other vassals to overthrow the ruling Domnitor, Dragos III Draculesti, and install himself on the throne. This scheming eventually erupted into the Vlachian Civil War and resulted in the independence of Vlachia under Basarab rule.
