The '''Battle of Lake Pontus''' was a decisive battle in the [[Imperial Civil War]] which occurred in 883 [[AIC]] between the Imperial Army, led by [[Alexeios Vatatzes]], and the rebel army of the [[Archadian Curia]] and [[Consilium Basileii]], led by [[Lodovico di Gonzaga]], [[Joseph von Wallenstein]], and [[Vincenzo della Rovere]].

After the declaration of hostilities, the rebels began amassing their forces near [[Pontica]], awaiting the arrival of forces from [[Archadia (city)|Archadia]] and [[Nicoloviana]]. Pontica's central location in the empire was the perfect rallying point, since it allowed the rebels to respond to the potential threats of [[Faendal]] and [[Vlachia]], who at this point had not declared for either side, and it allowed the rebels to take up defences positions and prepare should the [[Garantinople]] loyalists attack.

The battle was short. The Imperial forces were routed but the rebels had suffered too many casualties to capitalise on this rout. Alexeios Vatatzes was taken prisoner by Joseph von Wallenstein and Vincenzo della Rovere after the battle - the loss of the commanding officer meaning that the Imperial Army was never able to effectively regroup and challenge the rebels again.
