Vincenzo della Rovere (c. 845 - 883 AIC) was an Archon of Archadia and a member of both the Consilium Basileii and Curia of Archadia in the late 800s AIC. He played a pivotal role in the Imperial Civil War, pushing the Curia to accept the Edict of Vissegrad and leading the rebel armies to victory in the Battle of Lake Pontus. He died before the war's conclusion.

Early Life and the Curia
Vincenzo della Rovere was born to Antonio della Rovere, a destitute merchant of Archadia, as a third son. Vincenzo's grandfather, Giovanni, was a curator by census during the Tor Ardwen regime, but he lost most of the family wealth in risky trade deals. As Giovanni was a Sotiran, the family situtation did not improve much after the conquest of István Nagy in 840. Even though Antonio publicly renounced the religion (like many other Archadians), suspicions remained high especially during the last decade, in which Antonio's children were born (Pietro in 840 and Ottavio in 842). As such, young Vincenzo grew up in a period of fear, both of István Nagy's secret agents and St. Kastor inquisition search for heretics, and of the Archadian Omnicans possible retributions. Nevertheless, through skill and determination of Antonio (and later of the Pietro), the family slowly managed to reclaim some of its wealth.

Vincenzo soon realised that he had no skill for business and rather turned to politics. In 859, he became aide to Curator Gaetano Scarpia and following Ottavio Makesini's ascension to the throne, he could start focusing on his carreer in full as the period of fear for Sotirans was over. In 862, he became aedil in the Archontium and finally, in 867, was elected as a curator (as opposed to his grandfater, who was appointed by census). He managed to win every subsequent election and remained a curator until his death. In 872, he was elected as Archon, becoming the youngest Archon of Archadia in recent history. In total, he held the position from 872 to 876 and from 880 until his death. In addition to that, he also served as the member of Consilium Basileii as the representative of Archadia.

Imperial Civil War
Vincenzo della Rovere continued to serve Archadia and the Empire even after the death of emperor Ottavio. In 878, hee was appointed as Archon Extraordinarius to represent Archadia on the Council of Vissegrad called by Emperor Baldassare Velisario, due to the sudden death of the the original representative, Archon Lorenzo Toscanini. As such, he attended the fateful event that saw the assassination of Baldassare and became engulfed in the events that culminated in the ceasefire between the Consilium and the Regency of Berenike Garantia. He was reprimanded by the Curia for his actions, as they were deemed too liberal for being merely an extraordinary representative, even though he had the full backing of Archadia's second representative, Archon Pietro Mascagni. It also did not prevent his second election as Archon in 880.

His position was endangered in 882, when he was accused by Empress Berenike of the murder of Emperor Cleon Garantius. When the Curia was asked to release him to Imperial custody, he was protected however , and managed to turn the tide by proposing to legalise the Edict of Vissegrad, created by late Emperor Baldassare, to a great success. This marked the beginning of the short, but bloody Imperial Civil War. He quickly assumed command of the Consilium Forces, allong with Joseph von Wallenstein and Lodovico di Gonzaga. Together, they led their armies to victory in the Battle of Lake Pontus in 883. However, following his return to Archadia after the battle, he died suddenly of a heart attack. Vincenzo never married and died without any children.

Later Rumours
Long after his death, rumours occasionally spread throughout Archadia that Vincenzo della Rovere was behind the assassination of Emperor Baldassare and that he later committed suicide to avoid justice. These rumours have never been proven and are most likely mere urban legends.

Lodovico di Gonzaga (Classical Archadian: Ludovicus de Gonzaga; 844 - 901 AIC) was the count of Pontica, member of the Consilium Basileii and one of the founding fathers of the Second Archadian Empire. His son Enrico founded the Garantius-Gonzaga line, seen as the rightful heirs of the Empire by the Legitimist movement.

Personal Life
Lodovico was born to Federico di Gonzaga, the first count of Pontica. His father was one of the first members of the so-called Imperial Nobility, families given rank by Emperor István Nagy during his reign. To overcome the suspicion with which they were looked upon by Archadians, in 855 AIC Lodovico was sent to Archadia to study under his father's friend, Ottavio Makesini. Eventually, the two families agreed to a marriage to cement the ties between Archadia and Pontica and Lodovico was betrothed to Ottavio's only child, Lucrezia. In 859 AIC, Federico feared of the growing threat of the Nicolovian Civil War and Lodovico was called back home. As such, neither man could protest when in 860 AIC, after István Nagy was assassinated and Ottavio became the new Emperor, the betrothal to Lucrezia was broken as her future marriage suddenly became a matter of state. The family ties however were not forgotten and in 866 AIC Lodovico married Ottavio's cousin, Maria. They had one son, Enrico.

Imperial Service
In 871 AIC, Federico di Gonzaga died and Lodovico inherited the title, as well as the membership of the Consilium Basileii, the Imperial Parliament. Ottavio then took Lodovico under his wings, tutoring him on the matters of politics, rulership and Archadian traditions, which Ottavio considered more important than even the Empire. As the ageing Emperor feared the ideals of his son-in-law and heir, Baldassare Velisario, he hoped to groom Lodovico into his heir politically, if not dynastically. To ensure that Lodovico would have the necessary authority to outweigh Baldassare, Ottavio named him Procurator Basileii in 872 AIC, the Emperor's representative and deputy should his health deteriorate. In 874 AIC, Baldassare visited Urbs Archadia with the whole Imperial family to visit the now dying Emperor one last time. On his death bed, Ottavio wanted to remedy the old insult of breaking Lodovico's betrothal and asked Baldassare to have Lodovico's son Enrico betrothed to Baldassare's youngest daughter (and thus Ottavio's granddaughter), Irulan.

Following Ottavio's death in 874 AIC, the new Emperor Baldassare decided to move the capital to Garantinopolis and named Lodovico Procurator Archadiae, his deputy in the old capital, whose task was to oversee the many reconstruction projects undergoing in the city. It is likely that Baldassare named Lodovico not only because of his loyalty, but also to limit the power of the Curia, as Lodovico remained a foreigner in Archadia. For 4 years Lodovico carefully manoeuvred between his duties to the Empire and his belief that the Curia should rule supreme in the city. Following the death of the Heliarch Antonius Pius in 873 AIC and with the growing tension between Omnicans and Sotirans, Baldassare called the Council of Vissegrad in 878 AIC, a joint meeting of the Consilim and the College of Cardinals to discuss and solve various issues of faith. However, the Council ended with Baldassare's assassination, which plunged the Empire into chaos.

Regency and Civil War
As Baldassare's oldest child, princess Berenike Garantina immediately assumed regency for her minor brother, Nicodemos, and then for Cleon after Nicodemos' disappearance. Lodovico assumed an official leadership of the Consilium, with his main goals being to ensure the continuing reign of the Consilium in the Empire as it was under Ottavio and Baldassare, as well preventing a civil war should the Consilium and Regency become too opposite in their views, preferring a compromise. Lodovico managed forge an uneasy alliance with the Regency, mainly with the assistance of Vincenzo della Rovere, one of Archadia's Archons, and Joseph von Wallenstein, the Duke of Krachenmehr. The conflict between the two religions, while becoming more and more bloody, was moved to the background as Lodovico's primary concern became the continuation of the peace between the two factions.

The relations between the two quickly soured in 881 AIC when Cleon was crowned the new Emperor and was wed to his own sister, the former regent Berenike. The Consilium accused Berenike of trying to usurp absolute power. To ensure more efficient ways of communicating with the Throne, Lodovico was elected the Praetor Consilii, Consilium's speaker before the Emperor. When Cleon suddenly died the next year, Berenike assumed autocracy and declared war on all Sotirans. In an act of defiance, Archadia and Nicoloviana legalised Sotiranity, following the rules of Baldassare's Edict of Vissegrad. Berenike branded them all traitors and ordered the Imperial armies against the forces of the Consilium. Lodovico stayed loyal to the ideals of Archadia and joined the forces of Consilium.

Following the short, but bloody war, Berenike was defeated in 883 AIC and her lost brother Nicodemos, returning from exile, took the throne under the name Jahangir. He accused Archadia of creating chaos and instability in the Empire and decided to punish the city by granting it independence (or, in his word, exiling it from the Empire forever). Lodovico, with the help of Joseph von Wallenstein and Lorenzo Makesini of Archadia managed to keep a large part of the Hasperian part of the Empire together, creating the Second Archadian Empire.

Second Empire
Lodovico returned to Archadia with his soon to be daughter-in-law, Irulan, now the crown princess of the Empire. Endless discussions then went on in the Curia and the remnant of the Consilium on how the Empire should continue, with many arguing that Irulan should be crowned Empress. However, the Curia feared the power of Lodovico, who was seen as just one step from becoming an autocrat himself. In the end, Nicodemos was acknowledged as the rightful ruler, as the Curia did not want the throne to be controlled by Lodovico. On Lorenzo's advice, who feared that Lodovico might be assassinated soon, Lodovico then resigned from all his political positions (though he remained the count of Pontica) and returned to his hometown along with Irulan, who did not want to stay in Archadia. There Irulan and Enrico married in 884 AIC.

Despite Lodovico's retirement, he often spoke in both the Curia and Consilium as a guest speaker, advising against relying on passing new written laws. His stance can best be summarised by his speech to the Curia from 892 AIC: "The only true law is the constant search for justice. By writing a codex, you only serve the tyrant you so fear, for no one else knows better how to abuse a letter."

Lodovico passed away peacefully in Pontica in 901 AIC.

Joseph Maximilian von Wallenstein (827 - 891 AIC) was the duke of Krachenmehr and member of the Consilium Basileii. He played a pivotal role in the Imperial Civil War, pushing the Consilium to accept the Edict of Vissegrad and leading the rebel armies to victory in the Battle of Lake Pontus.

Early Life and Nicolovian Civil War
Joseph von Wallenstein was born a second son of Franz von Wallenstein, hereditary duke of Krachenmehr and long time High Judge of the Nicolovian Confederation. As the duchy was meant to pass on to his older brother, Leopold, Joseph was instead groomed for the military. He gained experience both by serving in the ducal guard and in the Royal and Imperial Army of Emperor István Nagy. In 853 AIC, he was appointed as commander of the Northern Royal Army, tasked with guarding the capital. However, following the forming of the Noble Alliance by his father and duke Tomáš Bílín of Nedele in 855, István Nagy stripped him of his position and attempted to arrest him. However, Joseph and a handful of his loyal soldiers managed to escape Nicolovia and joined his father in the conflict that would quickly grow into a civil war.

He quickly amased fame and and was regarded as one of the most skilled military commanders on either side. He led the Noble Alliance in the battle of Poszotér in 857, in which the Royal Army was crushed, as well as the successful defense of Adlersberg in 858. However, his brother died in the same year during the second battle of Poszotér, leaving Joseph as the heir to the duchy. Following this, his father ordered him to return to Krachenmehr to defend the city, while Franz himself took the command of the Noble Alliance forces.

This eventually led to István Nagy's victory after he managed to capture and execute both Wallenstein and Bílín and dispersing the bulk of the Noble Alliance. However, as István Nagy first decided to pacify Archadia before turning on the rest of the Alliance, Joseph von Wallenstein managed to outlive his king, who was assassinated in the city in 860.

Member of the Consilium Basileii
Following the ascension of Ottavio Makesini and his reforms, Joseph von Wallenstein became a member of the Consilium Basileii as one of the Nicolovian dukes. During that peaceful period, he mainly focused on administering Krachenmehr to the best of his abilites. He accepted the position of Senechal of the Imperial Guard in 863, but resigned after 2 years, wanting to instead focus on family life. In the Consilium, he was one of the key supporters of duke Baldassare Velisario in his attempts to legalize Sotiranity in the Empire, although these motions remained unsuccessful. In 874, he was the only member of the Consilium from non-Archadian provinces to attend the funeral of Emperor Ottavio.

Joseph von Wallenstein remained a close ally of now Emperor Baldassare and attended the Council of Vissegrad as such. As Baldassare was assassinated there, he quickly formed an alliance with Lodovico di Gonzaga and Vincenzo della Rovere to oppose autocratic tendencies of the regent Berenike Garantia. As an ageing man, he tried to use his authority to diffuse any potential conflicts, but when he was accused of murdering young Emperor Cleon Garantius in 882, he fled Garantinople and joined the quickly forming Consiliar Forces, starting the Imperial Civil War. As one of the few military leaders with any real battle experience in the all of Empire, he was appointed Commander-in-Chief and managed to defeat the outnumbering Imperial Army in the Battle of Lake Pontus.

After Emperor Jahangir dissolved the Empire, Joseph von Wallenstein chose to remain loyal to the Consilium and brought Krachenmehr under the protection of Archadia, instead of choosing the Vladimirian Vozdh.

He died in 891, being succeeded by his son Franz Leopold.

Family
In 861, Joseph married Zsófia Hunyádi of Vissegrád. Together, they had four children:
*Luisa Amalia (862 - 901), married Konrad von Hutburg of Hochalmshof
*Franz Leopold (865 - 925), duke of Krachenmehr, married Konstancie Veleslavná of Pražmo
*Karl Maximilian (867 - 921), became master on the Imperial Academy, married Federica Visconti of Pontica
*Anna Sophia (871 - 943), unmarried
The Second Archadian Empire, more commonly known as Archadian Empire and officially as Gloriosissimum Basileium Archadianum, is a federative democracy in Hasperia, which views itself as the direct continuation of both the original Archadian Empire and the later Holy Archadian Empire, supported by the fact that its capital is Urbs Archadia. These claims are rivalled by those of the Neogaranid Empire, ruled by members of house Garantius from Garantinopolis.

The Empire is ruled by the Consilium Basileii, a parliament consisting of deputies from Imperial provinces. Apart of Urbs Archadia itself and the surrounding territory, the Empire also controls southern Lorem and southern shores of lake Pontus, as well as southern parts of Nicoloviana.

Religion
Archadia has long served as the centre of Aurelianity of many different denominations. The Empire follows the Edict of Vissegrad, issued by emperor Baldassare Velisario, which grants religious freedom and equal rights to all who worship Sol Invictus regardless of whether they followed the Heliarch or not. After the office of the Heliarch was disbanded by emperor Nicodemos, the Omnican Church was officially disbanded in Archadia and in its stead an ecumenical Imperial Church was created, with the goal of serving all Aurelians. Officially, the Emperor is the head of the Imperial Church and his duties are carried out by the Interrex.

Imperial Administration
The Archadian Empire legally remains a hereditary monarchy with the heirs of house Garantius recognised as the legitimate rulers of Archadia. However, as the Emperors reside in Garantinopolis and rule over the separate Neogaranid Empire, Archadia remains without a head of state. To serve as a titular head of state, each year the Consilium randomly selects an Interrex, who serves as the High Priest of the Imperial Church and if necessary, carries out ceremonial duties of the head of state.

The main ruling body of the Empire is the Consilium Basileii, a parliament of provincial deputies, and the Praefectorium, an executive body of 7 praefects elected by the Consilium. However, the authority of both the Consilium and the Praefectorium is limited only to international issues and federal issues. Any notion brought before the Consilium must be preliminarily agreed on by at least two provinces in order to recognise that it is a federal issue. Members of the Consilium are elected by provincial councils for 5-year terms. Some provinces (including Urbs Archadia) limit each member to serve only one consecutive term.

Jahangir (863 - 924 AIC), born Nicodemus Belisarius and Nicodemos Garantius, also called the Sayyid, was first emperor of the Garanid Empire. Seeing corruption in the empire, he launched a campaign to conquer Garantinople whilst the Holy Archadian Empire was distracted by the Imperial Civil War which saw the nobles of Urbs Archadia and Nicolovia rebel against his sister, Berenike Garantia.

Early Life
Nicodemus Belisarius was born eldest son of Baldassare Velisario in 863 AIC. As eldest son, he was heir to the Holy Archadian Empire. After his fathers death in 878 AIC, the Imperial Guard was sent to the retrieve Nicodemus from Isthar, where he was being educated. Possibly sensing a coup by her sister, Berenike, he ordered the guards killed before they could kidnap him. Nicodemus then left for the desert of Haram, into hiding.

Imperial Civil War
Whilst in the desert of Haram, Nicodemus adopted the name Sayyid. He led an attack on the contingent of Order of Saint Kastor of Karden who were deployed to find him, personally executing Hermann von Eleuburg through the means of scorpions. He marched on Dehradun, where he met with the commanding officer Manuel Parapinakes and convinced him to relinquish control of the fort and army.

The Sayyid then marched on Garantinople and had the army, now mixed Haramites and Archadians, camp outside its walls. Irulan Garantia and Manuel Parapinakes had the city open its walls for the army, which was forbidden from looting, whilst the Sayyid walked to the palace. The garrison surrendered with little bloodshed. At the palace, the Sayyid found the Empress Berenike Garantia dying by suicide.

Reign
After the seizure of power, the Sayyid, now revealed to be Nicodemos Garantius, gave a speech to the cheering crowds of the city. He denounced the heliarch Innocentius Aurelius, exiling him to the desert of Haram, and dissolved the Heliarchy. He denounced Sotiranity also, and implored the crowds to "look into the sun and see the truth". He dissolved the Holy Archadian Empire, granting independence to Vlachia, Faendal, and Nicolovia as well as exiling Archadia from the city. The Consilium Basileii was also dissolved. He took the name Jahangir, the true Conqueror of the World.

A new empire, the so-called Garanid Empire, was formed, centred on Garantinople and Isthar, with Jahangir its first Emperor. The empire was renowned for its equality, with all religions being accepted.
Some consider Jahangir to be as crazy as his sister.

Following the death of the Heliarch Antonius Pius in 873 AIC and with the growing tension between Omnicans and Sotirans, Baldassare called the Council of Vissegrad in 874 AIC, a joint meeting of the Consilim and the College of Cardinals to discuss and solve various issues of faith.

The Imperial Civil War was a war fought 882 - 883 AIC in the Holy Archadian Empire between forces loyal to Empress Berenike Garantia against forces loyal to the Consilium Basileii and Curia of Archadia.

Background
Berenike Garantia was appointed as regent after her father, Baldassare Velisario, emperor of the Holy Archadian Empire, was assassinated in 878 AIC. The regency was only to last a few months the heir to the throne Nicodemos Garantius reached adulthood. However, Nicodemos was kidnapped from his residence in Isthar. The regency then lasted 3 years, with Berenike taking an increasing role in the affairs of state.

Cleon Bellisarius was crowned emperor in 881 AIC at Garantinople, angering the Archadians who saw the centuries long tradition of holding the coronation in Archadia spat on. The new emperor was a puppet of his sister, Berenike, and married her soon after the coronation, an act that shocked Omnicans, both citizens and nobles, though it was with the blessing of the Heliarch. Cleon was later assassinated that year, giving Berenike full authority once again. Berenike blamed Sotirans for the assassination and had the religion outlawed, angering many nobles of Nicoloviana and Archadia, who thought peaceful coexistence between the two religion was possible.

Berenike had been slowing slipping into madness, seeing apparitions and having bursts of anger.

The Imperial Spring, also called the Great Inner Sea War, was a war fought between 214 and 215 AIC. It involved every major power around the Inner Sea. The Archadian Empire faced an invasion from Thure, uprisings in Lorem Ipsum and Portus Ferrarius, a blockade by Nosamo, and internal strife which eventually led to the later Archadian Civil War.

Background
Thure and the Archadian Empire had long been rivals, the Thurians believing that the province of Praxidea and its capital Cecasandria rightfully belonged to them. Emperor Optimus Garantius XVII attempted to negotiate a long-lasting peace between the two nations, even going so far as to give land to Thure. However, this was not enough and it is now evident that Thure was merely tricking the Archadians.

Between Nosamo and the Archadian Empire, there was a growing naval rivalry. With Archadian interests now spreading across the Inner Sea and into Nosamoan sphere of influence, such as to Portus Ferrarius and Kryero, Nosamo felt threatened and allied itself with Thure against the empire.

Recently, Lorem Ipsum and later Portus Ferrarius were invited to join the Archadian Empire as autonomous provinces. Soon the old aristocrats, who had lost privileges and did not get the support they wanted, resented this decision and encouraged revolt in the provinces.

Theatres
Upon the declaration of war given by Thure, the vikings, alongside their vassals Whitehaven, invaded Cecasandria, leading to a siege.

Nosamo attacked the far-off province of Portus Ferrarius and the Archadian ally Kryero.

The city of Archadia was subject to a blockade by the fleet of Nosamo. Archadian attempts to lift this had mixed results.

In Lorem Ipsum, a declaration of independence was given to Archadian diplomats. The Loremi prepared defences for a siege and arrested the dissenting members of Legio IV Cautis. King Chaese Legioncula's private villa in Archadia was sacked. It is suspected that members of Familia Makesini were behind this.

Aftermath
The Imperial Spring was a direct cause of the Archadian Civil War, which saw the emperor overthrown and the Archadian Republic established. The emperor fled to Garantinopolis, forming a second Archadian Empire. The division was short-lived however as the Garantinopolitan Emperor Alexeius Garantius XXI captured Archadia and reunited the Empire.

Nosamo became the dominant power in the Inner Sea and was able to enforce its demands on all the new states. Notably, it forced its former allies Thure and Whitehaven to abandon their raiding and pirate lifestyle and become farmers across their lands and their newly annexed Praxidea.

Lorem Ipsum suffered greatly in the war, with its capital Prudentissimus completely destroyed. The state soon faded into obscurity, unable to withstand against the Germanic tribes during the Great Migration.

With the emperor now ruling from Garantinople, the city flourished with wealth, quickly becoming one of the largest nations in the world.

The Vlachian Civil War was a series of conflicts starting in October 883 AIC and ending in 893 AIC in the Principality of Vlachia happening alongside the Imperial Civil War. The war was principally fought between House of Basarab with their supporters and the ruling House of Draculesti with their supporters. Other forces like the Order of Saint Castor as well as extremists religious rebels of both Manteism and Aurelianity also played a role.

Background
In the late 870s and early 880s, tensions in Vlachia between the ruling House of Draculesti and their vassals were on the rise. Many nobles resented the Holy Archadian Empire because they felt underrepresented. Additionally, the enforcement of the Omnican religion by Domnitor Dragos III Draculesti vexed the nobles which still held on to ancient Vlachian practices in Manteism.

By mid-883, the Domnitor was largely an ineffectual leader. Dragos had been shocked and in mourning since the deaths of two of his sons and the unknown whereabouts of his youngest daughter. In December of 882, Constantin Draculesti, the youngest son, had been assassinated by a ceremonial Mantestic dagger whilst Vlad Draculesti had died in January 883 at the Battle of Lake Pontus whilst travelling to Isthar. Violeta Draculesti had been travelling with him and her whereabouts were unconfirmed. At the same time, the House of Draculesti was split in two as the House of Vestul was formed by Petru Draculesti. These traumatic events no doubt effected his judgement. Meanwhile, vassals were scheming against him and messages from out of realm were being intercepted and did not reach the capital.

War
Overthrow of Dragos III
In October 883 AIC, Alexandru Basarab, Voivode of Padurile, declared war on Dragos III and House Draculesti. Petru Vestul, Voivode of Vestul immediately joined him. Hiring mercenaries and conscripting their peasants, the two Voivodes formed a small army in Racari and prepared to march on Cantacuzino.

However, Dragos Draculesti led an army to meet the rebels in Racari. The loyalist forces had the upper hand in the initial surprise attack but soon found themselves outnumbered and out skilled as the conscripted citizens of the loyalist forces were no match for the mercenaries hired by the rebels. Dragos died in battle, in one-on-one combat with Vlad Vladislav. Alexandru Draculesti, the son of Dragos, was crowned Domnitor, as Alexandru II, in Cantacuzino, as soon as he heard the news.

In February 884, the Basarab military campaign in the swamp began, with Alexandru Basarab travelling through Mlastina asking the Ispans to join their cause or destroying them. The destroyed loyalist army could do little to stop them.

In June 886, Cantacuzino was finally laid siege to, the last remnants of the Draculesti household holding onto what they could, out of fear or out of loyalty. However, the siege was short lived, as in September, Grigory Ardenislav, an unlanded noble of the Basarab retinue, used pyromancy to burn the city to the ground. Remaining supporters of the House of Draculesti fled the country to Leopoli or Archadia.

Religious Conflicts
In December 886, Alexandru Basarab was declared Domnitor of Vlachia as Alexandru III. Manteism was declared the official and only tolerated religion of the newly independent Principality of Vlachia. Seeing the odds against them, the Order of Saint Castor attempted to withdraw from Vlachia but were harassed continuously. Uprisings by Aurelianity followers and worshippers of Sol Invictus were constant and many rejected the old beliefs of Manteism.

By the end of 893, the uprisings had stopped and there was once again peace in Vlachia.

Aftermath
The Principality of Vlachia never recovered from this civil war, which devastated the fragile economy of the nation and brought it outside the beneficial trade zone that was the Holy Archadian Empire. Under the House of Basarab, the country eventually became a vassal of the Vladimirian Vozdh, which began a process of Vozdhification, ending the short-lived revival of Manteism and bringing the country back to Aurelianity. The House of Draculesti was destroyed and faded into obscurity.

István Nagy (809 AIC - 860 AIC) was the king of Nicoloviana (As István III Nagy) and the first emperor of the Holy Archadian Empire, which he declared in 840 AIC.

István Nagy was elected king of Nicoloviana in 837 AIC after the death of his father Zoltán. His ascencion marked the first time a dynastic heir assumed the throne in the whole existence of the Confederacy. The main reason behind this breaking of traditions was to prevent a civil war from happening as the Omnican Union and Sotiran League wanted to prevent the other side from gaining power and king Zoltán has always been seen as a neutral arbitrator. However, that proved futile as István quickly proclaimed his loyalty to the Omnican Church, allying with the newly appointed Heliarch Antonius Pius. Wanting to ensure the victory of the Omnican faith, he made a deal with the Heliarch: István Nagy would gain the control over the Order of Saint Castor of Karden, with which he would cleanse Hasperia from all Sotirans.

István Nagy set his eyes on Archadia, then controlled by the Sotiran Tor Ardwen regime. In 839 AIC he began a full scale invasion south. Order forces quickly captured the town Pontica and marched through the mountains towards Archadia, while the Nicolovian armies split - a half stayed in the north, blocking off any attempts of Vladimirian Vozdh to intervene on the side of Sotirans, while another half quickly blocked off Leopoli, though they failed to capture the city. Following that, the southern armies joined at Archadia, quickly surrounding the city, with István Nagy leading the siege. As an Omnican uprising quickly began in the city, storming the dilapitated city walls was easy and on March 27, 840 AIC, for the first time in history, Archadia was conquered.

István Nagy quickly reinstated the Heliarch in the city and as he effectively controlled both the sacral and secular power of the ancient Imperial Capital, he proclaimed himself the Holy Archadian Emperor, Protector of all Faithful. However, István could not keep Nicolovian lands unattended, still fearing a Sotiran uprising, and as such left Archadia to tend for itself. Likewise, he never even visited Faendal to take control of the Order.

By 855 AIC, his attempts to crush Sotirans in Nicoloviana began having undesired effects. István had no qualms in using any weapon at his disposal, using expropriation, arrests and executions without holding court and even assassinations against anyone who became suspect of being a Sotiran. However, in attempts to centralize his holdings, István just as likely would have targeted an Omnican noble. This led to a secret meeting of informal leaders of the two religious groups, Omnican Tomáš Bílin, Duke of Nedele, and Franz von Wallenstein, Duke of Krachenmehr. This sparked the Nicolovian Civil War, in which both Sotiran and Omnican nobles fought the Emperor to preserve their rights.

In 860 AIC, the Noble Alliance sought for peace as the land was utterly ravaged by the constant warfare. István Nagy agreed to parlay, but then managed to capture both leaders and had them executed on spot, near the town of Vissegrad. He then decided to use his victory to curtail the rights of the Archadian Curia. His need to visit the city then even increased as he learned of the death of Antonius Pius. István Nagy entered Archadia in triumph, riding through the Triumphant Arch and taking residence in the old Imperial Palace. He declared his intention to appoint a new Heliarch the next day. However, as he climbed the stairs of the Curia, he was killed by his own guards. The motive of the act was never discovered, though many speculated that the guards were in league with either the Noble Alliance, or the Archadian Curia.

Though István Nagy married Sofia von Aldersberg, they never had any children.

History
In 784 AIC, after years of preaching about the corruption and tyranny within the Omnican church and Heliarchy, Iosephos Sotiras led a popular uprising against the curia in Archadia, creating a new regime. The following years were marked by brutal hunts and executions of members of the church and nobility, including the Heliarch. The regime attempted to gain control over the entire empire, but constant uprisings, exasperated by the death of Sotiras in 801 AIC, constantly threatened the countryside and parts of the city.

In 838 AIC, the new Heliarch, Antonius Pius, then resident of Verduro, allies with the Order of St. Kastor and king István Nagy of Nicoloviana in order to finally destroy the Tor Ardwen regime and restore Archadia to Omnicanism. The coalition, after 2 years of brutal war, finally succeeded in overthrowing the regime. Istvan Nagy was subsequently crowned the first Emperor of the Holy Archadian Empire. Despite this, Sotiranity had entrenched itself across the empire and much of Hasperia.

Name
The name Tor Ardwen has often baffled historians, as the name is clearly not of Archadian origin. The name comes from a scripture by an unknown monk or traveller written probably in the 5th century AIC which was discovered by Sotiras and which is believed to have been the basis of his reforms. In this book, Tor Ardwen, which the author translates as Great White Spire, is a mythical place where people have found serenity and unity in worshipping all aspects of the Sun at once. Some scholars believe this Spire to be the tower of Whitegold in the distant Azurien, though there has never been any other reference of Azurien being known to Archadians at that time.

Garantius XLII (full regnal name Octavius Makesinus Garantius XLII, 814 AIC - 874 AIC), usually referred to as Emperor Ottavio, was Emperor of the Holy Archadian Empire. His ascension marked the return of the Garantius dynasty on the Imperial throne.

He was born as Ottavio Makesini to one of the most influential families of Archadia in the height of the Tor Ardwen regime. His paternal great-grandmother was Giancarla Garantio, whose offsprings were the most direct relatives of house Garantius by blood. He quickly rose in prominence among the Archadian patricians for his wisdom and cunning, taking control of the family business before he reached 30. It was in that time that he first became known as Ottavio "Il Magnifico" Makesini. After the conquest of Archadia by István Nagy of Nicoloviana in 840 AIC he became a chief supporter of cooperation between Archadia and the newly established Holy Archadian Empire, hoping that Archadia would manage to dominate the Empire through soft power.

When Emperor István Nagy was assassinated in 860 AIC by Curia plotters without leaving any heir, Ottavio Makesini quickly took control of the situation and with the assistance of his personal friend, the newly appointed Heliarch Justinus Aurelianus, and, using his blood relation to the Garantii, became the new emperor of the Holy Archadian Empire. Immediately afterwards, he created the Duchy of Faendal on the lands previously administred by the Order of Saint Castor of Karden and integrated them fully into the Empire. By marrying his only child, Lucrezia, to Baldassare Velisario, the Duke of Garantinopolis, Garantinopolis rejoined the Empire as well. The Principality of Vlachia also voluntarily joined the Empire. These events are jointly known as the Imperial Restoration.

Emperor Ottavio, coming from a purely Archadian origin, believed in shared power. This belief was even stronger following the Nicolovian Civil War in which the Nicolovian nobility fought with Emperor István Nagy over power. To ensure that Emperors could no longer rule absolutistically in the future, he created the Consilium Basileii, an Imperial Parliament consisting of nobles and representatives of Imperial Cities.

Ottavio Makesini died in 874 AIC at the age of 60, from natural causes. He was succeeded by his son-in-law, Baldassare Velisario.

Optimus Garantius XVII (155 - 214 AIC) was emperor of the Archadian Empire from 176 AIC until his death. His reign saw the tension with Thure erupt into the Great Inner Sea War, which he was assassinated during.

Reign
The reign of Garantius XVII was marked with the growing tension between Thure and the Archadian Empire. Thure, led by Ragnar Firebeard, claimed the province of Praxidea for themselves. The emperor attempted to negotiate a long-lasting peace with the vikings by giving many concessions, even handing over land in the province to them. However, this did not last, and Thure, emboldened by an alliance with Nosamo, declared war starting the Imperial Spring.
Optimus had one daughter, Basilia, who succeeded him.
Optimus was great friends with his Praefectus Iudiciarii, Servius Magnus Makesinus.

It it sometimes speculated that Optimus in fact survived the war, living his last years in exile.

After a brief question from Cheese, I've decided to write my ponders on the topic of Saints (in the Christian sense) in Solar religions here, hoping for the opinions of others. (TL:DR at the bottom)

My main view of all this comes from the teachings of Sotiras - he claimed it is wrong to assume that there are two aspects of Sol Invictus, because Sol Invictus is everything. That itself is an extrapolation of the basic claim of prophet Aurelios that all gods are but separately worshipped aspects of Sol Invictus, so Sol Invictus is all gods and the god, therefore everything. If Sol Invictus truly is everything, it is also simple to reverse it and say that everything is Sol Invictus, thus the idea that there are separate Saints who are capable of swaying the mind of Sol Invictus must be entirely rejected by the Sotirans.

However, if Sotiras claimed that, it had to be because he was criticising the Omnican Church. As such, it is a short leap of logic to say that maybe the Omnican Church in his times did proclaim and recognize saints. There are even two saints already existing in RP lore (or more I'm not aware of) - there's St. Castor of Karden from Faendal and San Markos from Leopoli. Leopoli however is Sotiran nowadays, so either my theory is wrong or San Markos is more of a nationalist icon rather than religious (or he's merely called saint without actually having any attributes of sainthood?).

Also, since Sotiras created his movement in Archadia, it is probable that Archadians did not agree with the policies of the Church, quite possibly the stance of Saints as well. As such I'd argue that if Sainthood does (or at least did) exist in the Omnican Church, it is a thing of the other nations, but not inherent to Archadians. So when the Omnican Church was disbanded in Archadia, Archadian saints may have been quickly forgotten.

TL:DR - Omnicans have (or at least had) Saints, Sotirans do not have them, Archadians don't have them either.

Makesin: Makesin's theory on Saints, not part of RP lore unless approved by others

TL:DR - Omnicans have (or at least had) Saints, Aurelians do not have them, Archadians don't have them either.

Archadian is the language and culture of the Archadian Empire and, more generally, it can also refer to the generic Archadian language family which encompasses much of western and southern Hasperia including the lands of Montebianco, Order of Mount Sol, and, to a lesser extent, Neogaranid Empire.

Classical Archadian Language
Classical Archadian is the ancient language of the empire long past. Though never today used in daily speech as anyone's first language, Classical Archadian is often the language used in laws and in mottos of a number of realms including: Archadian Empire, Order of Mount Sol, Vlachia, and others.

Modern Archadians
Contemporary Archadians could be roughly divided into Major Archadians, Minor Archadians and Outer Archadians. Though the names are derived from Imperial provinces, they are often used by Major Archadians as derrogatory.

Major Archadians
People from the province of Archadia Maior, including Urbs Archadia itself. They consider themselves to be the only true Archadians, as all the others are in their eyes barbarianised. A peculiar trait of these is that they refuse to use any names that are not of Imperial origin (i.e. proper Archadian, Elyrian or Istarian). As a side note, Leopolitans are considered to be Major Archadians by people of Archadia, a view not shared by the former. Classical Archadian is still considered the proper language, though few actually know it well enough to be able to converse.

Minor Archadians
The people from Archadia Minor, a mostly countryside folk which, while still considered pure by Major Archadians, have lost most of their ancient cultural heritage.

Outer Archadians
Any surviving pockets of Archadian culture in the world, all of which have to some degree fallen to outside influence. Considered only a little better than barbarians by Major Archadians, they nevertheless formed many cultures of their own. Examples include Ponticans or Montebiancians, as well as remnants of Archadian culture in the Neogaranid Empire.

Servius Magnus Makesinus (143 - 220 AIC) was one of the most important iurists of the Archadian Empire, serving through most of his life as Praefectus Iudiciarii, or the minister for law, under Emperor Optimus Garantius XVII. He is, even to this day, regarded as the creator of the modern Archadian state, and is often cited as the most influential Archadian philosopher.

He is equally famous (or infamous, according to many), for his role during the Great Inner Sea War, when he, after the disappearace of Emperor Optimus Garantius XVII in 216 AIC, instigated a revolt of the Curia against the Emperor's heir, his nephew Archadius, which saw him stripped of his absolute power. This created a schism between the Imperial and Curial loyalists, leading to a brief civil war in 220 AIC. The war ended in the victory of Curia and the end of House Garantius in its male line, as emperor Archadius Garantius XVIII was executed, which many believe was ordered by Servius Makesinus himself. However, he did not savour this victory for long, as tradition holds that he died later on the same day, apparently punished by gods.

In philosophy and law, Makesinus is mostly known for his work Bonus Status Rei Publicae, a philosophical and legal work describing a perfect state. The work served as the basis for Imperial Administration all the way to the fall of the Empire, and is even nowadays cited as the primary source of Archadian law.

The Serrentino Conference was a meeting of diplomatic ambassadors of the great nations of the world held in 1120 AIC. The objective of the conference was to provide a solution to the crisis caused by Azurien demanding an end to the exclusive trade agreement between Nosamo and Desteylle. The conference was called by Montebianco, fearing a great war between the naval powers which they believed would have been devastating to the world.

Background
Since roughly 900 AIC, Desteylle considered Nosamo their protectorate with the Nosamo Emperor still maintaining full power in Nosamo but trading being limited wholly to Desteylle. A Steyllch Governor-General was appointed to represent Nosamo diplomatically whilst a special fleet contingent of the Steyllch Navy was based out of Nankyo to protect their interests.

More recently, Steyllch ships under the command of Enguerrand de Rochenoire had raided the eastern coast of Hasperia, vexing Bistum Greifenhausen and Azurien. Notably, Seedorf was raided, and became a point of contention between Bistum Greifenhausen and Desteylle, who refused to apologise for the crimes. Azurien extended full protection to the eastern ocean, hoping to put an end to the piracy by deploying the Azurian Navy.

Participants
The following nations attended the conference:

* Principality of Montebianco, represented by Prince-Sovereign Lorenzo II
* Neogaranid Empire, represented by Ambassador Adham Khan
* Second Archadian Empire, represented by Legatus Ferdinando Scalia
* Faendish Empire, represented by Ambassador Franz G Beveren
* Azurien Land, represented by Ambassador Nevos Sadriil
* Bistum Greifenhausen, represented by Admiral Balthasar
* Republic of Silvetia, represented by Senator Micha
* Lonian Assembly, represented by Ambassador Afkstar

Difficulty was had between Ferdinando Scalia and Adham Khan, as both claimed to represent the interests of the Archadian Empire.

The representative from Bistum Greifenhausen left the talks midway, angered at the apathy shown towards the people of Seedorf.

General Act
The members of the conference agreed to the following points:

Archadia, formally Urbs Archadia, is the capital and most populous city of the Archadian Empire. It lies on the shores of Golfo Porporico on the north-west of the Inner Sea. It is one of the oldest cities still in existence in Hasperia as well as the whole of Pluribus. As such, it underwent many iterations and its current form is a result of heavy reconstruction during the 9th and 10th century AIC.

History
The city began as a collection of mostly shepherd settlements on several hills that would later become the centre of Urbs Archadia. The tribes were united by Elyrian immigrants following the fall of first Elyria. Traditionally the founding of the city is credited to Garantius Rex and is dated to 0 ARC (or -571 AIC), although there is little evidence to back this legend.

Archadia grew as the city slowly became the capital of the known world, until the construction of Garantinopolis shifted the Imperial focus there. Archadia survived the Barbarian invasions mostly unscathed, but the loss of the Empire took a heavy toll on the city. When it was conquered by István Nagy in 840 AIC, the city was but a shade of its former glory. However, Emperor Ottavio Makesini began an extensive reconstruction project for the whole city centre, one that would not be completed for another hundred years. Archadia also prospered due to influx of many refugees from throughout the Empire before and during the Imperial Civil War. Due to the removal of the old cramped town and the influx of wealth, Archadia became a modern and bustling metropolis.

Places of Interest
;Great Basilica
: Located on Piazza Grande. Built by Ottavio Makesini as a replacement of a much older structure, the Great Basilica serves mainly for public ceremonies and as a centre of the Imperial Cult.
;Piazza di Curia
: Located on the Capitoline Hill. The piazza is a home to the Palazzo di Curia, seat of the Curia Archadiana. Tradition holds that the stairs that lead to the Hill can only be walked on foot to show that all men are equal.
;Palazzo Makesini
: Located on Piazza Makesini. The largest palazzo in Archadia, it was built in the first half of the 9th century AIC and serves as the seat of the influential Makesini family.
;Basilica di Sant'Aurelio
: Located on the Foro Palatino. The basilica serves as the most important church of Archadia.
;Imperial Palace
: Located on the Palatine Hill. The Imperial Palace was the seat of the Archadian emperors and their government. Often rebuilt, it is a mix of all the possible architectonical styles. Today it serves as the seat of the Consilium Basileii.
;Foro Archadiano
: Located on the northern end of the Palatine Hill, the Archadian Forum has often served as the centre of the political life of the city. It hosts the Templum, an ancient temple of Sol Invictus. The Forum was heavily rebuilt by Emperor Baldassare Velisario, who built the so-called Balthasarium.
;Castel d'Impero
: Located on the northern outskirts of the city. Often called Il Castello, the large fort was built atop an ancient fortification system that once housed Legio I Impera, the personal legion of the emperors.

When Emperor István Nagy was assassinated in 860 AIC by Curia plotters without leaving any heir, Ottavio Makesini quickly took control of the situation and with the assistance of his personal friend, the newly appointed Heliarch Justnius Aurelianus, and, using his blood relation to the Garantii, became the new emperor of the Holy Archadian Empire.
