Silvetian Mountains
The Silvetian Mountains are a mountain range in central Hasperia, spanning from Lake Lone in the north to the Central Mountains in the south.
Name
While Silvetian Mountains is the official name of the mountain range, the use of which is encouraged by the Silvetian government, the local populace uses a completely different reference: Dämonenkamm, roughly translating to Demon's Ridge, is widely used all over Silvetia and the Lonian Assembly. That name hints at the countless fairy tales and horror stories told about this region, which is alleged to be the home of a vast number of ogres, trolls, gnomes, haunted creeks, and demons turned into trees by the old gods. In scholarly circles the area is often referred to as Silvam Montes, though Archadian scholars point out that this name cannot be found in any of the old Archadian documents.
Geography
The mountain range runs almost perfectly along a north-south-axis between Lake Lone and the Central Mountains. All creeks and rivers immediately to the West flow into the Schwarzwasser river, while the ones to the East run into the river (to be named) - both of which finally meet in Lake Lone. Most of the moutain range is forested and the peaks are nearly perpetually covered in snow. Interestingly, the southern part of the Silvetian Mountains does not directly connect with the Central Mountains, but instead with the Demon's Vale, a wide and densely forested valley, which is also home to the Great Western Road connecting southern Silvetia with Lönefisk (Lonian Assembly and Azurien).
Settlements and Sights
Although the whole area is sparsely populated, the Silvetian Mountains play an important role in local culture and history. The only larger settlement, Bad Erzquell, was largely devastated during the Silvetian Revolution and is now a symbol for that civil war as a whole. The Silvetian Eagle Monument located near Bad Erzquell is a huge national memorial site dedicated to that part of history.
Economy
The slopes of the Silvetian Mountains are rich in minerals, timber, and game. With its many creeks and rivers, the majority of downhill transportation is done by timber rafts. On the Silvetian side, there are natural hot springs in Bad Erzquell, making that town a Spa town attracting many wealthy travellers from near and far.
